Choose your product version, then check the operating systems below. KeepActive 2.0 and Kickidler 1.0 use different installers.
1. Choose your product version

Keep the Server switched on and accessible to employee computers. It can run on an office computer, dedicated server, virtual machine or rented VPS (virtual private server). Your organization manages it and its data.
For remote employees, ask your administrator to arrange one of these options:
- VPN: connect employees to the Server’s network.
- Fixed public IP and port forwarding: use a fixed, publicly reachable address and forward the required office-router ports to the Server, with suitable firewall protection.
- VPS: install the Server on a rented machine and provide a VPN or a securely configured public connection.
Use an operating system that still receives security updates. For an OS or version not listed below, contact Support before installation.
2. KeepActive 2.0 Server requirements
Use a 64-bit Intel or AMD computer. A dedicated server or VPS is preferable for everyday use; a Windows desktop can be used for a trial or small installation.

Linux setup is an administrator task. The standard installer uses systemd; Alpine Linux and container deployments need a separate installation procedure. There is no macOS Server package in this guide.
Database
The standard installer includes PostgreSQL 18; no separate database setup is needed. To use an existing database, ask your administrator to prepare a compatible PostgreSQL 16 or later instance. Employee computers do not need PostgreSQL.
Server hardware and storage planning
These are approximate Linux Server configurations for planning a trial, not fixed minimums or guaranteed employee capacities. Windows also needs enough resources for the operating system.

Allow about 20–40 GB for the initial Linux installation, plus space for employee data, database growth, logs, exports, backups and free-space reserve. Recording, frequent screenshots and many simultaneous viewers require more resources. Test a small group first; Support can help with sizing.
3. KeepActive 2.0 Agent requirements
Install the Agent on each employee computer. Windows and Linux packages are for 64-bit Intel/AMD; macOS has separate Intel and Apple silicon packages.

Linux: X11 and Wayland are supported. On GNOME, sign out and back in after installation so the KeepActive extension can load. Available features can differ on other desktops; check your setup with Support.
macOS: grant the permissions requested during installation. Windows: Self-Control needs Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime; the installer attempts to add it if missing. An administrator should prepare it for offline installations.
Employee-computer resource planning
These approximate examples describe the computer’s resources, not the Agent’s memory use. Also allow for the operating system, other applications, logs, updates and data waiting to be sent.

Continuous recording, long network outages and multiple remote-desktop sessions need separate sizing. These disk figures are not a guaranteed offline-data allowance. For Apple silicon, measure the workload rather than comparing clock speeds with this x64 table.
4. Kickidler 1.0 requirements

Windows on Intel or AMD computers: Windows 10 (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 11 (64-bit), Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 or 2025 (64-bit).
macOS: macOS 11–27. On Apple silicon (M-series), install Rosetta manually before installing the Grabber or Viewer. Intel Macs do not need Rosetta.

Linux desktop requirement: the Grabber and Viewer need a native X.Org (X11) session. Wayland and XWayland are not supported in 1.0. The Server can run without a graphical desktop.
Older compatible releases are omitted from this short list. For a new Linux deployment, consider KeepActive 2.0 for newer operating systems and Wayland.

These figures are approximate, not guaranteed resource use or employee capacity. Allow for the OS and other applications, and measure actual recording, storage and report workloads.

5. Network and internet access
Your administrator can use this table to allow the required connections. Use your configured ports if they differ from these defaults.

Keep PostgreSQL private. Bundled 2.0 PostgreSQL uses local TCP 5433; external databases use their configured port, commonly 5432. Do not expose the database to employee computers or the internet.
Activation alone does not prove that an employee computer can reach your Server. In 2.0, HTTPS port 443 does not automatically configure Live and playback. Test these features from the employee’s or viewer’s network when licensed and enabled.
6. Storage, retention and availability
- Plan space for the database, screenshots, recordings, logs, exports and backups. Start with about 30% free-space reserve, then adjust to actual use.
- Data size depends on employee count, screen resolution, capture frequency and how long you keep it. Storage and load estimates are approximate; there is no fixed disk-per-employee or compression rate.
- Low free space can interrupt recording and leave gaps. Monitor every disk used by the Server.
- Keep the Server awake and arrange regular backups. Check CPU, RAM, disk and network use during a trial before expanding.
7. Before you install
- Choose the product version and the correct installer for each computer.
- Ask your administrator to prepare the Server, network access and backups. Keep security protection enabled.
- Test one employee computer. Check new activity, reports and the features you need in the web interface or Viewer, depending on your version.
- Use an up-to-date desktop browser. For an existing installation, back up the data and follow that version’s update instructions.
